8:10 this morning...Mason had another seizure and stopped breathing for about 30 seconds. His lips turned blue. Grandpa walked in the house and called 9-1-1 and a first responder was there within minutes. The ambulance was there within 20 minutes. I was on the phone with Grandpa, and Daddy and we told them we wanted Mason only to go to Marshfield, no where else. On my way to Marshfield I called Dr. Koehn's nurse to update them on the episode so when we arrived at the ER, Dr. Koehn stopped by less than 30 minutes later.
His oxygen stats are fine. No more seizures. No fever. Essentially, we have no idea why this happened. We are increasing his seizure meds again (3 x daily vs. 2 x daily) and putting him on a different drug in case he get seizures. We think that his intense irritability a few weeks ago was caused by the Lorazepam so they are giving us Diastat. So many meds, I can't even figure out how to spell 'em.
Dr. Koehn asked us if we wanted to spend the day here or go home and she highly encouraged us to spend the day at home and monitor him, because there is so much sickness going around the hospital. So Daddy is going to drive Grandma Duck home (who got her first ride in an ambulance today) so that she can color her hair to cover up all the grays she just got. :)
Dr. Koehn also explained that his seizures could cause his WBC to increase which could have been the reason for his high WBC test 2 weeks ago (Nov. 7th).
Oh, by the way, Mason has some slight redness in his right ear (was his left ear 2 weeks ago) so they are going to give Omoxicilin (sp?) to try and take care of that.
We should be leaving here by 11:30/noon, but we know how long a discharge can take. Can't wait to see how much that ambulance ride is going to cost! UGH!
We are hopeful for a healthy thanksgiving.
We were praying like crazy this morning when Anna called with the scary news. Did he start breathing on his own after he turned blue? I'm so sorry he has to be sick so soon after his last episode. He is probably super wiped out after the med change and all the action today. I hope he perks up fast and we'll keep praying for him.
ReplyDeleteYes, luckily he started breathing on his own. He's sort of irritable, took a 4 hour nap this afternoon and now just wants to cuddle. The sleepiness could also be attributed to the increase in his med...as it will take him a few days to adjust to it. We have a little anxiety about tonight, just hoping another seizure doesn't come through. Thanks for all your prayers. We truly think that was the reason for his speedy recovery this morning.
