Ear Infection Follow-up Visit

Mason's follow-up appointment with Dr. Shepherd went pretty good today. His infection in his ears is cleared up but is still "healing". She said his ear drums looked a tad blurry so she said he is still fighting off a middle ear infection.

We told her that he had a tad of vomiting and then diarrhea for the past 3 days. She believes it was unrelated to the ears and thinks he is fighting off a small stomach flu of some sort. He hasn't had a fever or any seizures that would make us think it's serious. She told us that with his history so far this flu season, should he get a fever, she wants to be called right away so that we can perform a blood culture to check for anything strange. The biggest concern would be endocarditis, an infection in the heart...and since that was a possibility before, we won't be messing around with fevers anymore. I LOVE doctors that are proactive vs. reactive!!!

Since his poopy pants have continued for about 3 days, she also suggested we switch (temporarily) to a lactose-free milk because lactose can make kids fighting a stomach flu more crampy and gassy. That explains Mason's twitching and popcorn pants at night! I purchased some...and we'll try it this weekend. I tasted it, and it just isn't as good as the real thing...but Mason didn't seem to notice and gulped down 4 of his 5 oz. for supper! That's the best he's done in weeks!

Mason received a clean bill of health from the doc! We told her that we were heading to a wedding tomorrow and her eyebrows raised a bit. She suggested we keep him close so he's not exposed to anything. We wouldn't want to make it any harder for him to fully heal from this bug he's got. Don't take offense if I ask you to disinfect if you desire some cuddle-time with Mason. :)

Tonight Chris and I are preparing for a 4 hour trip to MN for Matt and Anna's wedding! It's amazing how much more your luggage increases when you travel with a little one: high chair, walker, stroller, pack-n-play, etc. I'm looking forward to some celebrating and some dancing...and I will post pictures if I remember to take them. (I am not paparrazi like some addict scrapbookers I know).

Hope all is well with all the Mason-followers and that you are keeping warm this cold January!!!
