A Whirlwind Monday

Chris and I leave for vacation in 48 hours.  Rather than a nice, calm week getting ready to go (and getting Mason ready to spend 6 days with family), I get a call at work from the school nurse.

I was in a meeting, and was called out and told "Mosinee Elementary is on hold". It was the school nurse. "Mason had a little incident at school today." (I immediately think shit...seizure.)  "They were making jello in class today and Mason dumped the hot gelatin on himself. He has some redness and blistering, so I think he needs to get checked out. Since it's difficult to strap him in and transport, we suggest an emergency vehicle."  Well, great.

I met him at Aspirus. Mason was all smiles.  He had some redness on his legs and two blisters by his big toes.  You wouldn't even know by Mason's behavior that this had happened. The teachers at the school reacted well, stripping all his clothes off and putting on cold compresses. He went home with Grandma (who met me at the hospital) and I was back to work within an hour.

By the time I got home today, Mason's blisters had disappeared!  His redness is minimal and you can hardly tell anything happened (except the jello-stained clothes and hands.)  Thank goodness.

I also had my 11 week appointment today.  Pretty standard catch-up stuff, talking about some prenatal testing that we plan for this new little one.  With Mason's history, we plan to calm our nerves with some additional screening just to make sure everything is okay. Even if it turned out that this little one was going to be unique, early knowing is better this time.  We're prepared.  After the chit-chat, it was time for a heartbeat check.  I have been pretty excited for this, since I haven't really felt pregnant up to this point.  Besides the fact I had migraines, morning sickness, overall queasiness, I guess hearing the little one would really make it real. The doc could not find the heartbeat, attributed to either a very active little one or the gassy lunch I had (I blame both). They brought in an ultrasound machine to get me some pictures and check the heartbeat. Seeing this little one in there made it very real.  I wish Chris would have come to this one, I guess I didn't expect to see the baby.  The nurse must have known I needed this, as she spent a good 5 minutes watching with me.  The baby flipped, stretched, curled up and hiccuped in those 5 minutes. I asked if she could tell the heartbeat from the scan and she said she would try with the doppler. She managed to find it and keep it going for a few seconds, the first reading was 172 and the second was 178. A quick little one!  I sat and listened to the heartbeat for awhile also, taking it all in.

Seeing baby #2 made the past 6 weeks of sickness all worth it.

(I apologize for the lack of pictures, our computer is not connecting to Wi-Fi and I am not good at scanning the ultrasounds, but I promise more pics in the future!)

What a crazy yet wonderful Monday!  We fly to Phoenix in 2 days and I can't wait for the relaxing!!!
