We Love Food.

We. Love. Food. This week has been a great week for food. I am in the midst of the employee cookouts at work and Chris just got back from a guy's fishing vacation near Tomahawk. While I have been gorging on hamburgers, brats, beans and potato salad, Chris was inhaling T-Bones, Burgers, Pulled Pork and Beef Brisket. (Don't ask me why I capitalized Chris's food words, I guess I was trying to emphasize the fact that all of his food was MEAT.)

I got an email from Mom today that simply said: "Cukes, Peas and Beans are ready in garden. Don't wait too long to pick."

Saweeeet! Finally get to enjoy the fruits (or veggies) of our labor. I should use the word "labor" lightly, as we didn't put all that much work into our garden. I haven't weeded once. Mother Nature has been good to us with her rainy days followed by hot sweltering days. So picked is just what Chris did. Here's some shots of the findings:

You may be wondering...What the H*LL happened to their cukes? We're not sure...the soil must be missing something. HOWEVER - those monstrous softball size cukes made the BEST cucumber salad.

Tomatoes are just around the corner. Lots of little green ones on the vines. I have never canned before, so I am looking forward to learning. I don't like tomatoes raw (I know, crazy, right?) but love tomato sauce and diced tomatoes in my casseroles. Even bigger ones are okay in chili, spanish rice, etc. I really dislike tomato juice but I almost want to try it again...because Bloody Mary's look sooooo good. We'll see what I have time for when our 15 tomato plants are ready!

I am loving this garden thing. Chris is already planning out where the expansion will take place next year. Someday, if we ever get to live on our land, we plan to have raspberries, asparagus, strawberries and tons more of what we already have planted. And more herbs. Tons of herbs. Oh, and some more apple trees...mmmm, apple crisp.

See. Told ya. We. Love. Food.
