Mason had his first appointment with Dr. Turner today. Mason did pretty well having things propped in his mouth while they looked around. Mason's teeth are definitely slow to grow in, but we can expect his next two teeth on the bottom within 6 months or so. (I think we thought that 6 months ago?) Dr. Turner found Mason's bifid uvula and wonders if Mason also has a submucous cleft. We've wondered the same thing for awhile now...so we will check with Dr. Workinger (speech) at our next special needs clinic.
Mason did not have any build-up on his teeth which is great considering we hardly get in there to brush. We will continue to try and brush them at least once daily...just to get him used to it. Also, he got to hear the grinding that Mason does from time to time. Luckily, the grinding is not doing anything to his teeth and is not a real concern at this point.
As far as Mason's field goal gap in the front...its likely genetics. Ortho is definitely in the future. Mason also has a fused tooth on the bottom (two teeth that came in as one) but that doesn't necessarily mean his next set of teeth will do that.
As long as we continue to get in there and brush, Mason will just have a quick check every 6 months. Mason is going to prove to be a very interesting patient with his oral aversion but we're going to work more on that.
So far I am pretty impressed with First Impressions. They have a great kid atmosphere and Dr. Turner seems to know alot about Mason's particular condition, meds, etc. It's great to have such knowledgeable people out there so you don't have to explain every detail of Mason's medical history!
That's all that is new in Mason land right now...as far as Mom and Dad...we're keeping busy with the day to day and spending time with our little boy.
Hope all is well with you!
